Recycling, as an environmental-social process

Let’s make the world a more pleasant place to live, taking care of the environment around us because it is not only our individual space, but it is and should be considered the welcoming space of our civic coexistence! The environment belongs to everyone and we are identified through it! Taking care of him means taking care of yourself. Caring for nature starts with the individual himself, it begins with the separation of waste at home and then with throwing them in the appropriate bins, and then moves on to another process, which is that of recycling.

Recycling is a set of activities that include the collection, separation and process of turning waste into a new product, with and without the chemical structure of the material.

Recycling is an ecological and profitable opportunity in waste management in addition to landfills or incineration because through it: energy is saved, taxes are saved, the amount of waste is reduced, natural resources (such as forests, water, assets) are saved underground, metals and fossil oil/liquids) etc., prevents air pollution caused by the production of a new product and leads to the reduction of global warming.

In short, the recycling process helps preserve the environment. But when we talk about such activities, which are of national importance, there must be a spirit of cooperation at the individual and state level, because it is agreed that the citizen will separate the waste and where, in which bins will this waste go, where are the recycling bins what sets them apart? Today, even in Tirana, which is the capital of the country, you don’t see more than two or three such bins, while the population is close to one million. Absurdity!

In the meantime, let’s take Germany as an example, which is a model case in terms of environmental culture, recycling and more. On every corner of the street you see three large metal vases (glass, plastic and paper). And each family, each house has been distributed free of charge by the state special containers where waste is collected, their separation is done and thus everything is recycled.

We are certainly far from this spirit of citizenship and politics, but if we start working for change, we will improve!

Recycling, among other things, is also profitable, because it saves energy, surface and material. How is this achieved? The answer would be another concrete case: one of the European countries came out of the economic crisis, also thanks to the recycling process. The country in question is Spain, which managed to get out of a rather severe economic crisis by utilizing the savings from waste recycling. It was the civic spirit that encouraged people to throw away only plastic, glass and paper, and thanks to this individual work, recycling companies managed to save millions of euros in their work. This is how thanks to such an activity, still unknown to us, we have a healthier environment and economic development at the same time.

But why still in Albania, such politics does not find a place? What are the barriers, what is happening to us who today are not coherent with such problems, which for the whole world are a daily activity, why many people still do not know the term “recycling”???

Of course, the answer here is multiple, but what is most evident is the lack of information at the public, administrative and official level or the lack of culture about how much benefit a society, a business, a state can have from recycling policies. This means that without recognizing the phenomenon, we have no way to make its implementation possible. Second is the lack of experience from the business itself and finally the high cost. Recycling itself also requires favorable economic conditions for transportation and energy used. However, regardless of favoritism or not, one day you have to start somewhere and the sooner the better. What is spent today, is earned tomorrow!

The environmental problem is urgent and every opportunity we are given is a solution. We make the choices! And nature no longer has time to wait for us, it has endured and waited for us for centuries, but now not anymore!

Man robbed nature endlessly, but she never forgets to take revenge! And this is apparently a moment of nature against man and now we have to start correcting ourselves! The amount of waste that is produced is increasing every year by 3% and if this waste is not recycled, it will remain stock in nature until it dominates nature. In conclusion, urban waste recycling is not the complete solution, but it is a good start!
